Would you exist if your parents didn't learn a language?

This idea came to me while reading an article about how a stable workforce for Japan requires greater immigration and the necessity of integration and language learning in order for that to happen.

I then thought about my own life. My parents were lucky enough to be able to come to immigrate to the US (US citizen now). They lived in a large city with a Chinatown where they could network and find work opportunities. If the US is actually going to become a global melting pot, we're going to need other places to become the same way.

Only problem is that there are some obvious barriers for widespread adoption. The US has a relatively high percentage of native English speakers compared to other countries, English is a widely used global language, and I'm sure there are many others.

But on the other hand, if the parents of native English speakers learned a language, that would increase the number of native English speakers who are the children of parents who learned a language themselves.
