Your work should pay you more. Your school should do a better job at teaching you. Your government should provide you with more resources. Chatgpt should cost $5/month.

But you can't have it all.

What you can do is recognize that chatgpt helps a ton of people do their work more efficiently, including you, and treat the AI with respect because of it. You can try to actually learn things and take notes instead of relying on chatgpt to summarize all of your study material for you. You can ask for more money at work, or apply to a different job.

I get to use chatgpt for free, and it has changed my life. It helps me learn new things, helps me translate things, and helps me write emails and papers. I guess I'm a bit of an outlier because a.) I'm low-income and b.) I don't live in the US, but I feel like the US and other Western countries have created a culture where people expect lots of things for free/discount, including healthcare, college, and now AI services.

Companies are not charities. OpenAI is not a charity. If you want to use a piece of software for free because the business model isn't sustainable, you should be happy that you get to use it at all.
