Anyone have any tips for a beginner cook?

I just turned 18 and moved out of a very controlling house, where I wasn't allowed to make food because they believed being an artist was more important. So I now don't know how to cook or anything like that so any tips on where to start would be great.<br><br><br>Also if anyone has any tips on how to save money in general that would be great because I find myself just running to the grocery store right after I get off work and buying meal after meal after meal.
