The title says it all. Everyone respects parents and their need to care for their children, but parents don’t respect people who choose not to have kids. They question them and try to convince them otherwise. Even if they say they respect people who don’t want kids, they don’t really. I’ve seen plenty of posts on Chambers of parents who say they respect childfree people…. Until they ask them why they chose not to have kids. Then it’s like they can’t control themselves and just have to ask them to justify why they chose not to have kids. Back in college people asked why I didn’t want kids. My response was that I just don’t want kids. That’s not good enough so they keep pressing the issue and asking why. I say I just don’t want to have kids. That’s not good enough and they just won’t let it go. It’s not a hard concept to understand. I just don’t want kids. What’s the difference between choosing to have kids and choosing not to have kids? There doesn’t need to be a reason to have kids or not have kids. Stop trying to make childfree people justify why they choose not to have kids. Choose to have kids, that’s fine. Choose not to have kids, that’s fine too. It really is that simple. There is no need to justify why you made either choice.

Parents need to stop judging childfree people. And no, parents don’t respect childfree people just because they say they do.
