Just got home and wanted to give a shoutout to the front desk staff at Hotel Wailea on Maui.

Ok so throwaway account and all the usual disclaimers here:

I recently stayed at Hotel Wailea on Maui with some friends and my fiancé. We are in our 40s and we weren’t looking for a crazy party vibe, just something mellow and not too much drama. I’ve been to Maui enough to know what I’m getting into but it had been a while.

We had some booking mishaps on the front end - I had booked us for a period, they switched the dates (which they admitted to), and then somehow I ended up with the reservation that was one day shorter than my friends.

I was able to get my reservation extended and my friends were able to get theirs changed, but they were still being told that they had to switch rooms.

The night before our trip, we were sent an update with our room assignments, and lo and behold, we were all supposed to be staying in different rooms and none of us were together.

I called the front desk. They were super apologetic, and they were able to get all of us in the same building. We were still going to have to switch rooms, but at least we were together.

Fast forward to the morning of our trip: this time, it’s my fiancé and my reservation that aren’t matched. Are you kidding me? I call the front desk, they said there was a discrepancy in the booking that they would work on it and they would get back to me.

Now this is the part where you hear the horror stories of people arriving at a hotel the front desk staff fucks with them for hours and then tells them they don’t have a reservation, or the reservation was for the wrong dates, etc etc.

None of that happened. We were warmly greeted, we were given a “welcome home” basket with some snacks and a few little gifts, I was told they were working on getting us assigned to the same rooms, and they even comped us breakfast.

For the rest of the trip, every time we interacted with the front desk staff, they were super friendly. It seemed like maybe they were a little short staffed, but they were working really hard to keep up with everything.

It’s not like this is some fleabag motel. Hotel Wailea is a really nice place to stay. We’re all pretty chill people, so we appreciated the laid-back vibe.

Anyway, we had a great time, we’ll be back, and the front desk staff there did an amazing job. They went above and beyond to be super accommodating, they were friendly, and they helped to save the trip when it could have been a disaster. I just wanted to give them a shoutout.
