What existed before the universe

The universe is around 13.8 billion years old. But the question that I would like to propose is what existed before it. According to science, there is no such thing as nothing, not in the way that we interpret it at least. But what was it? It obviously couldn't have been space as space is what makes up the universe. I have read a very interesting hypothesis which is that the universe is contained within a bubble, and the universe is slowly expanding outside of it. Therefore, the universe is slowly pushing its way out of the bubble, and this is what is known as space.

This is a pretty simple and straightforward view as to what might have existed before the universe, but it is somewhat the most logical. What do you think existed before the universe?
