Trying to Shove a Character in Our Faces Only Makes Us Hate it More

I'm going to use catgirls as an example but Shoukan... will be in my crosshairs.

Let's say that for example, Pop Team Epic had focused solely on its catgirls and Shoukan... had focused only on the Crunchyroll narrator and never strayed from that (I think that was the original plan, but he ended up doing something that I definitely thought was cooler, though I still love the Crunchyroll narrator bits).
Now, let's say you thought both catgirls and the Crunchyroll narrator were really annoying. Now the two formats are filled with the annoying characters, and it just makes you hate them more, which is likely the opposite of what the creators would want, because they're obsessed with these characters.

This is if the character is annoying. When it isn't, people want to see more. An example would be Big Mouth... in Shoukan..., or the Bob characters from Bob's Burgers in DFEK. They're funny, and fun, and people want to see more of them.
