I had to write something important today. My brain likes to protect me from anything scary. It tells me "I don't want to do this. It can wait." My brain also likes to make me feel bad when I don't do things I should. It says "You suck. You always procrastinate. You never get anything done in time."

I write a lot and it's just part of life, but I don't like it. When I'm older, I'm sure I'll be very happy I did it all, but for now it's a burden. I know that if I don't do it, I won't be successful. A lot of scientists and writers feel the same way.

I've found a way to defeat it all. Now, I know in 10 minutes I won't want to do it. But one tiny step, just to open the word document, maybe only for 30 seconds. It seems so ridiculously easy in comparison to opening the word document and staying there for an hour. It seems almost laughable. But somehow my brain can trick itself. Today, opening the word document for just 30 seconds turned into 8 hours.

Don't let your brain make you feel bad about everything. Just trick it into doing one tiny thing.
