What do you guys think about “fake, European-sounding names” in fantasy media like what Disney did with Raya?

I might not be the best person to speak on this subject, since I have little familiarity European culture (and how it is expressed in media), however I think there are two things that, in my opinion at least, are important.

One is that sometimes it is just a mistake born of laziness. Like, maybe people, perhaps subconsciously, think that if a name sounds vaguely European (especially French/Italian), it will automatically sound fancy and aristocratic, and thus they do not put in the effort to create unique, fictional, aristocratic-sounding names. This is something that perhaps requires a bit of research and/or creativity, but would definitely be better.

Two is that it, in my opinion at least, is a bit of cultural appropriation. Maybe I am just an European “elitist”, but I think there is a bit of a problem in taking real-life cultures and using them in your story, especially in way that is highly inaccurate. I think it is important to be able to tell what, if any, real life culture(s) your fantasy world is inspired by, perhaps even in which ways and to what extent, but I think it’s not a good idea to go “Here is a fantasy nation that is just like real-life France/Italy/whatever, except that it has magic and dragons and elves and stuff.”

What do you guys think about this? I know that this is a very common theme on this sub, but I was just wondering if you guys had any thoughts on it.
