Is it a bad idea to join a company that's replacing a major name brand?

So there's been a lot of talk about Bud Light sales plummeting lately because of the Dylan Mulvaney drama. Clearly the brand was impacted by this drama but it wasn't just beer drinkers that felt the impact. Yesterday I spoke with a former Bud Light employee of four years. He ended up leaving the company in part with what happened. But he also left due to the volume of job cuts happening at the company right now.

So he ended up joining a company that's 100% going to replace Bud Light and other basic lagers with new beers under the same brand name as this new company. I've never tasted their beers before, but from what I hear there's little to no difference and they're cheaper. They started working at this company two weeks ago and he thinks they'll be rolling out their direct competitor to Bud Light nationwide by the end of the year.

I haven't specifically figured out which company he joined and which beers they make. It's very clear that he's joined a company that's going to end up disrupting the beer industry. But am I a fool to join a company that will be disrupting another company like that? I don't have personal feelings about Anheuser-Busch but when I look at their stock prices, I see a company that isn't doing well. I also don't think it's wrong to disrupt a market like this. In fact I think it's probably a good thing. But I'm also fully aware that when a company disrupts an industry, there are casualties. People will lose their jobs. Am I playing with fire here? Or am I making a smart move?
