President Trump became the third President in US History to be impeached following a House vote on two articles of impeachment drafted by the House Judiciary Committee earlier in the week. <br><br>This is the first time that a President has been impeached in their first term, the third time that a president has been impeached, and marks a significant moment in the 2016-2020 presidential term of President Donald Trump. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY), President Trump, and other prominent Republicans have decried the investigation, calling it a "sham", a "witch hunt", and other names during the several months that the investigation has been proceeding.<br><br>The two articles of impeachment that were passed through the House were drafted following several months of investigation, and two days of debate in the House Judiciary Committee. Article I alleges "Abuse of Power" by President Trump. Article II alleges "Obstruction of Congress" by President Trump. The vote on Article I (Abuse of Power) was 230 For, 197 Against, and 1 Present.
