My family immigrated to the US from a different country. I’m pretty sure I found most of the reasons why they left to move here.

Back when I was young, one of the biggest reasons my family never mentioned back home was that I was born in the United States and not back in their country. I had no clue where I was going or why I was here. I never even knew I was not from the United States until I was older. I asked multiple times why we left and they would never give me an answer.

Recently I decided I wanted to find out why they left. I searched through all pictures and found one with a stamp from the airport. I typed in the name of the airport along with the words “why would you move from this country to the US” and was directed to a YouTube video that talked about why foreigners were pissed when they move here. It talked about how they were treated poorly and how they had to give up their citizenship for the US to become a citizen. It talked about how there is no help after you move (this might be an old video as now there are programs to help you). And I realized that means I might not actually be from the country I was born in, I might be from the neighboring country.

I’m not sure what language they speak there, but it does sound like Russian mixed with something else. I did more research and found that a lot of people from this neighboring country did not like the country I was born in due to how they were treated. They were treated poorly, they were punished for not speaking the language of the country I was born in. So this most likely could have been why they left and moved to the US. And this could be why I’m not actually from the country I was born in.
