Is 'emergence' just a word we use for things we don't understand?

It seems like when people and things do things we can't explain, we say they 'emerged,' as if it somehow explains things. <br><br>Are water molecules 'emergent' because 'it just kind of happens'? 'Emergent' phenomena are so common that what we consider the 'normal' world is an 'emergent' phenomenon, but we've explained what happens on that level in exhaustive detail, if not the actual 'why' of anything.
