former high school history teacher here, for context.

i struggled with classroom management. because i'm a human being. i was a teacher in the 2010s when there was a lot of information for teachers out there but none of it is really tailored to you and your class. so, 3rd period was my biggest class. it had 31 official students but there was a girl who had transferred classes with a teacher i never met twice a week so while we never saw her official number change, we all knew there were actually 33.

classroom management is hard. i never figured it out.

currently in a different field, and today at work i thought about a comment about how in a class of 8, it's easier for everyone to focus because there are only 8 of you and you can have genuine class discussions.

it made me think about that 3rd period class and how different it would have been with 8 students instead of 33.

in an ideal world, i would have more days off than i have days on, i would have a single class of 8 students, and i would be paid enough to have a second home in europe. but that would require a utopian society or a huge shift in the way we look at things

but class size is something that can be addressed. i've always thought this, but having worked in other fields and learned from other experiences, i feel much more confident saying that.
