Making Anki cards is so boring, do you know of any alternatives?

Two of my classes are very heavy on memorization. World History is by far the worst, the textbooks are literally phonebook sized with hundreds of dates and details we need to memorize.

Compounding on this is the fact that I have begun to use Anki to make flashcards. It is so boring. Even though I put in the bare minimum of information on one side of the card and a detail on the other, it still feels like I am wasting my time. It doesn't feel like studying, it just feels like a chore.

It also doesn't help that I haven't really been helped by the Anki cards, since the information is so dense that I have to use the flashcards along with the textbook in order to get the best results. I honestly wonder if I am using them right, but I have wasted so much time creating these cards when I could have been studying.

This just feels like a massive waste of time. I have never used Anki before this semester and I have never needed to. I have always done fine without it, even in dense classes. But I just don't have enough time in my schedule to keep up with my other classes and the bare minimum of studying for these two classes, which need a huge amount of effort.

So are there any alternatives? Any other methods of studying that are helpful for memorization?
