01:34
I’m just curious what other people think about this… I work highly skilled jobs usually but I decided to take a temp job until I get something else.

It’s for a audio visual company, anything you can think of for events basically.

My first day was training. No one else was hired so it was me and a 25 year old super chill guy, training me. He also works at a brewery and has two other jobs.

He was super nice and answered every question I had. There were a lot. He also told me it’s a good company, they don’t exploit you, they pay you well and don’t make you do anything dangerous.

So the next day I’m scheduled for an event. I meet two other workers at the warehouse. We don’t really have formal roles but I’m the only woman so I do all the cleaning and the guys do the heavy lifting. We get to the event and one of the guys who I’ll call Jim says he’s going home after we set up. I said wait, this is a 10 hour shift, you’re not staying? And he said no, I’m going home after set up. I thought he was leaving because it was still morning and he had been up all night but later I found out he does this for every shift. This is a temp job, none of us are staff.

Another worker named Yakob joined. This guy seemed a bit off from the beginning. First he kept looking at me in an inappropriate way. I ignored it and told him what needed to be done. He had been with the company for three months. This was my second day.

I told Yakob and the other guy what needed to be done but I noticed the Yakob was just dragging everything around like a slob. He was even dragging metal tables across the concrete floor leaving scuff marks.

I told him to either carry them or find a dolly. He said where is the dolly? And I was also looking for it but couldn’t find it anywhere. Then he said he was sleepy and needed something for his allergies. I’m sure he was high.

The event got set up but it was disorganized and ugly. If it had been me and one other person I feel like I would have gotten it done neatly. But with three people it was a mess.

After the set up, the event people needed us to change the configuration of the tables. Yakob and I did it but it was annoying because he was moving slow and still dragging everything around.

After we were done he went to the car and fell asleep. I walked around the exhibit and I was appalled. It was so disorganized and cluttered. Nothing was symmetrical. They had places where they were demoing two different things and instead of facing them towards each other, they were facing them away from each other. There were also 2/3 spots for demos and only one had chairs.

So I decided to organize things better but when I did that, I noticed that the tablecloths were very dirty. Of course Yakob was sleeping so I had to take all the tablecloths home and wash them.

I asked both guys if they wanted to grab a meal with me and they said no. I was a little happy they said no.

But the whole disorganized situation is making me very anxious. I feel like I would need to redo their work every time and it isn’t worth it.

Also when I went back to the warehouse to return the clean tablecloths, there were boxes stacked to the ceiling. The aisles were narrow, there were black strings of cobwebs hanging off the boxes. I tripped on a wire and a big crate almost fell on me but a worker caught it.

I feel like the company is really disorganized and dirty. I just don’t want to be involved with this until I get something else.

Has anyone ever had a situation like this?
