Am I the only one who thinks that "strong independent women" are a staple of the genre, and that feminism is largely a product of the fantasy community?

This may come across as sexist, misogynistic, and petty and I'm sorry if so, as I assure you that is not my intention. I have read a fair amount of fantasy, and there is one trope that irritates me: the "strong independent woman". This is a character who, no matter the setting, is a feminist in the mould of the contemporary Western world. This is often to the point where she challenges the patriarchal norms of the society she is in, and is often the main character of a story and will lead some sort of feminist movement. A good example of this is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but this is something that also shows up in lots of other media, like Black Panther, The Force Awakens, and Game of Thrones, where this is often the entire plot. This encourages the men to try to get with the strong independent woman, which creates a standard that women have to be strong and independent to be loved, which is not true because women can be very different.

Of course, this is not to say that there is anything wrong with women who are strong and independent. But I do believe that this has been overdone, and I don't want to see it anymore.

In addition, if I see one more ruggedly beautiful male love interest who loves the strong independent woman for who she is, but has a dark past that he can't get over, I think that I will actually pull my hair out.
