I'm so sick of hearing about minimalism

But I believe in it. My husband and I are first generation college students and we're trying so hard to build a life for ourselves. I've always been the type of person who likes just having my essentials. I don't like having a lot of things. It makes me anxious. I've always been the type of person to buy something nice instead of buying something cheap that won't last. I have a hard time throwing things away because I feel I don't have the right to waste anything when I grew up on welfare and foodstamps.

I used to work at a store that sold minimalist stuff and one day a lady came in with her daughter (who was probably 5) and her daughter was negotiating with her to buy her a toy. I don't know what was said before, but the mom said "We can get it because we deserve it after all our hard work." And the little girl cheered and they left with the toy.

I'm so tired of people saying they "deserve" things. I don't want my hypothetical children to grow up thinking they deserve anything just because of their hard work. I want them to know there are privileges in life you don't "deserve" and that everyone needs to work their ass off in order to make a better life. I don't want them to grow up being lazy with an entitlement complex.

I want them to know the world doesn't owe them anything. They owe the world their respect and kindness.

Sorry for the rant. I don't know what to do to stop this. This is how I feel about minimalism.
