A little background: I'm 26, in the upper middle class, and single. I work in high paying IT job (8-10 hours most days) and feel like it's sucking the life out of me. I make around $175k plus a lot of stock, but with the recent crash it's more like $115k. Next year my annual bonus will double, so I will make around $425k if the crash holds. (Don't get too excited for me, I live in the Bay Area)

I'm burned out and want to look for a job that gives me more time to travel and relax. I might even take some time off if I can find someone to cover my lease. I love to travel, go to the beach, and read books. That's what I usually do in my free time.

I am thinking of changing to a job that will give me a lot of free time to do the things I enjoy. But look at the news, it feels like layoffs are going to happen all over the world in the next year. I feel like I will regret leaving if that happens.

TL;DR I want to leave my high paying tech job to have more free time to travel and relax. I am reading through all the comments. A lot of good advice in here. I think I will keep my head down for a year and then re-evaluate the job market. Take care of yourselves.
