I made my first friend in a year right before I move away.

I'm 23 and I moved to a new town for work and have been living there for the last year. I had a really hard time making friends, especially since I'm really shy and I'm not really into going out drinking or clubbing.

I was feeling very lonely and anxious about being so isolated in a new town where I knew no one. I've tried online dating, joining groups and classes, even attending church, and nothing would work out.

Last week I took the leap and joined a group for cat lovers and that's where I met my new friend, Mandy. We spent an entire Saturday afternoon talking, laughing, and sharing our favorite stories and photos of our cats. It was truly the first time I felt like I had a friend in a very long time.

We've decided to stay in touch, and I'm so grateful to have her in my life. I know that I'll miss her now that I've moved away, but I'm also excited about the new adventures that await me.

So here's to new beginnings, new friendships, and the power of never giving up.

Edit:

I didn't actually move yet, I am moving in a few days. We knew it might be our last chance to hang out for a while depending on my future plans.

Also, I didn't mean to indicate I made a friend and then immediately moved. I just wanted to say I made my first friend then I am moving.
