ca circa Fermi curve Fermi curve Fermi curve

Supporting evidence?

Was on a self improvement chamber the other day, conversation got to porn, and everyone on that chamber (which was a bunch of rich men circa 30-40) said that they had all quit porn and it had made their lives exponentially better and they had all told their sons to quit porn.

So here’s my theory:

Now you can’t actually *largely* quit porn, because it’s so ubiquitous in modern society and men generally have such high sex drives that it can’t be avoided.

But the porn people actually talk about on the internet, that is discussed on places like this, is largely on the far right tail of this distribution. (Going by the fact that the most common argument in favour of porn is ‘oh, you know what they don’t *largely* do? *slur* or *derogatory word*)
The porn that is slightly to the left of this curve is still considered pretty extreme.

Ie, if you [what I mean by ‘what most people do on their own’ is the porn industry’s definition of] vanillla/vanillla go to the right of this curve, that is considered extreme, but the porn industry’s definition of vanilla is generally to the right of the ‘what people do on their own’ distribution curve.

The porn industry does not *largely* cater to what people actually do, but perhaps it caters to what people actually do far right tail and then more ‘extreme’ acts are created by people with fetishes.

Now if porn was *largely* just a mirror held to what people did in private, then we’d be able to say porn is good/harmless, and the anti-porn people would be wrong.

So we should look at what the studies have to say on this topic.

There are, funnily enough, studies on this topic. Don’t worry, I’m not going to give you a brief rundown of the conclusion of every single study like a particularly obnoxious redditor.

I’m just going to tell you a fact: they contradict each other wildly.

Some studies say that porn does create or exacerbate ED, and others say it may or may not be a contributing factor.

Some studies say that porn causes sex addiction, and others say that it can be used to fight sex addiction.

Some studies even say that porn may help men who are less sexually experienced, as it offers a ‘blueprint’ of what to do.

Business…?

Now you or I may have some theories, but that is all they are.

So why do so many people claim to have ‘proven’ that porn is ‘harmless’?

Now I’m not going to say that the porn industry does or doesn’t claim that porn is harmless. They do in some places, and they don’t in others. But that’s not the point.

The point is that there are a lot of people claiming to have ‘proven’ that porn is harmless with ‘evidence’.

The question: why?

Nothing else is this polarized and contradicted, so why does this topic have this massive gap of contradiction?

I propose the following theory:

There is a massive narrative to cover up the damage that porn does by claiming what the porn industry claims is true; that porn is just a mirror held to what people do in private, that it doesn’t shape or mould society, and that people who believe it does are deluded.

There is a massive narrative to cover up the damage that porn does by claiming what the porn industry claims is true; that porn is just a mirror held to what people do in private, that it doesn’t shape or mould society, and that people who believe it does are deluded.

There is a massive narrative to cover up the damage that porn does by claiming what the porn industry claims is true; that porn is just a mirror held to what people do in private, that it doesn’t shape or mould society, and that people who believe it does are deluded.

I hope that establishes my… hypothesis.

There is a massive narrative to cover up the damage that porn does by claiming what the porn industry claims is true; that porn is just a mirror held to what people do in private, that it doesn’t shape or mould society, and that people who believe it does are deluded.

The porn industry has done everything they can to erase the line between porn and real sex; to blur the picture of a woman with a real woman. To make a person see themself as separate from their physical sexual urges. To make a person think that a sexual urge must be acted on, no matter the cost or harm it may do. To make a person hate themselves for their natural sexual urges. To make a person think that they are ‘owed’ a sex life.

And the reason for this is so the porn industry can continue to make money, no matter the human cost.

And porn is a very big business.

In 2023, it was officially estimated to be worth around $32
billion dollars.

However, many people dispute this number, and the most common estimate is at around $40
billion dollars.

That is a very big business.

There is a massive narrative to cover up the damage that porn does by claiming what the porn industry claims is true; that porn is just a mirror held to what people do in private, that it doesn’t shape or mould society, and that people who believe it does are deluded.

And if you go up to someone in the street, that’s what they will tell you.

Don’t you want to know why?
