The Male Contraceptive Pill

I did not write this post. This post was written by a British botanist with a passionate interest in medicine. I just thought it was useful to share.

The day of the male contraceptive pill is almost here.

The end of perhaps the last great gender inequality.

*Women decide if and when they become mums.*

*The male role in conceiving a child, will be the same as a man’s role in the decision to terminate a pregnancy. A conversation with his partner.*

The burden of the pill ends for women.

The danger of female sterilisation ends too.

The pill is much safer for men than it is for women and works in the same way. It prevents the production of gametes, but does not affect fertility hormones.

It still a few years away from approval from the US FDA, but it will come very soon. The phase three trials will conclude next year.

Male sterilisation, which is far safer and less invasive than female sterilisation, is already available.

So, the era of the male pill and male sterilisation has effectively begun.

Men will be able to decide if and when they become Dads.

Can you imagine if birth control had been invented 100 years before it was and the first BC pill had been the male pill? Do you think women would ever have been given a pill?

I very much doubt it.
