I Found Something Awful in My Girlfriend's Phone

I was watching TV when I had the (EXTREMELY dumb) idea of going through my girlfriend’s phone. I can’t explain it, I just had the feeling that something was off. The way she was acting lately, always on her phone, even at night when she was supposed to be sleeping.

I know it makes no sense. It was stupid and disrespectful, and if you DONT do the same thing, you’ll be better off for it. I caught myself before doing it though. I decided to just ask her about it instead.

It was 2 AM and she was in the bathroom. I planned on asking her as soon as she got out. But as soon as I heard the water running, I got up, walked to the bathroom, and opened the door.

I thought I was prepared for anything. I wasn’t.

She was in the bathtub. The water was filled to the brim. And it was filled with blood. Her wrists were cut open, and I could see bone.

I thought she was dead. I screamed, and she stood up. I wasn't prepared for that. She stood up, and her arms were hanging by strings. Literally. Strings. I thought it was some sort of sick joke, but it wasn’t. There were strings holding her arms together, and it gave me the creepy feeling that her arms weren't even real. Her skin was gray and blue. Almost like she was decomposing. And the smell… It wasn’t the smell of rotting decomposition. It was the smell of decay. Death itself had a smell, and she smelled like it.

She looked at me, and she cried out in pain. Not physical pain, emotional pain. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and she said this:

“Why aren’t you asleep?”

I tried to say something, but I couldn’t. She was scaring the shit out of me. I was speechless. As we looked at each other, her eyes turned black. Black as coal. And that creepy smile that she loved to give me was back on her face. I was frozen in fear. I was paralyzed. She walked towards me, and I couldn’t move. I was scared. I was so fucking terrified that I couldn’t even move.

She walked up to me and kissed me. And when she kissed me, I felt a weird feeling in my stomach. It was like she was blowing air inside me. I coughed, and she pulled back. Almost immediately, I felt incredibly sleepy.

I wanted to fight it, but it was too late. I was already falling asleep, and before I knew it, I was back in the couch, fast asleep.

The next morning I woke up, and when I did, I had the weirdest feeling that the whole thing had been a dream. But it wasn’t. When I went to the bathroom to wash my face, I saw blood. A lot of blood. In the bathtub. I didn’t even have to check. I *knew* it wasn’t a dream.

I had to tell someone, but who? What was I gonna say? My girlfriend isn’t my girlfriend anymore. She died, and her body is possessed by some demon that uses her body to fuck with me?

So I guess that was that. I had to do it myself. I had to find out what the hell was happening to her, and more importantly, to me.

I had to find out who or what was playing with us, and put an end to it.

So I decided to start with her phone. If all of this was for me, then the answers had to be there.

I grabbed her phone and went to the kitchen. It was locked with an SMS code, but I knew it. It was my birthdate, and I’m sure she did that to be romantic.

I felt like a criminal as I unlocked the phone and went through her apps. Nothing out of the ordinary. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Spotify… She used TikTok the most. Her For You page was filled with videos of her favorite celebrities. Kim Kardashian. Selena Gomez. The usual.

I clicked on one of the videos and played it. It was a Kim Kardashian commercial for some makeup brand. Before it ended, I exited the app and went to her calls. Maybe I could find something there.

I scrolled through the numbers. Nothing but familiar numbers. Her mother. Her friends. Her father. Her…

Wait, what?

Her mother? I thought her mother was dead. She *was* dead. She died when my girlfriend was 10. She told me so herself. Why was her mother’s number on her calls then?

I clicked on the number, and I was about to call when I noticed something. The calls were always at the same time. 3 AM. And it wasn’t just the time that was the same, it was the length of the calls. 30 minutes, always.

Like clockwork, every day at 3 AM. Mommy was calling her baby.

I didn’t have time to finish my thought. As soon as I did, her phone rang, and I recognized the number. It was momma’s number. I answered immediately.

“Hello?”

“Hello there!”

I recognized the voice. It was my girlfriend. I said hi, but she just laughed. It was a weird, creepy laugh. I didn’t recognize it. It wasn’t my girlfriend’s laugh, it was someone else’s. I could tell.

“Can I talk to my girlfriend, please?”

“What girlfriend?”

“The girl whose phone I’m talking to.”

“Oh, her. My daughter. She’s dead.”

What? My heart was racing. I didn’t know what to say, so I said the first thing that came to mind.

“Then who’s this?”

“This is you.”

“How is this me?”

“The better question is, who is *she*?”

I was going insane. I didn’t know what she was talking about. I was about to ask her, but I never got the chance to.

“How is it feel to be dead?”

The line went dead.

I was frozen in place. My heart was pounding. I couldn’t even think straight. Suddenly, the kitchen felt so empty. It felt so big. The silence was starting to get to me.

But then I heard it. I heard my girlfriend’s voice. Tucked in the background. Whispering. It sounded like she was praying.

“Our father. Who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be-“

“BE WITH US.”

“BE WITH US.”

“BE WITH US.”

I spam tapped the End Call button and opened the Messages app. The same creepy feeling I had at the bathroom crept up on me as I saw the same number I called spammed with texts.

“We’re coming for you.”

“We’re coming for you.”

“We’re coming for you.”

I scrolled through them. Hundreds. Thousands. There were so many. I was so creeped out that I had to get out of the kitchen. I decided to go to the living room and try to calm myself down.

When I did, I heard it. The TV. It was on.

It wasn’t just the TV. It was the video. It was the same video from my girlfriend's phone. The Kim Kardashian commercial for the makeup brand. It was on the TV. The exact same video. From the same TikTok account.

Kim Kardashian was talking, but I couldn’t hear her. In the background, I could hear my girlfriend praying. The same prayer. The Lord’s Prayer.

“Our father. Who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be-“

“BE WITH US.”

“BE WITH US.”

“BE WITH US.”

I ran up to the TV and turned it off. When I did, something caught my eye. It was the remote. It was covered in blood.

More blood.

Even more goddamn blood.

I started to feel lightheaded. And then I smelled it. Death.

Suddenly, the room started spinning. And I felt something. I felt someone behind me.

I turned around, and it was her. She was right there. Standing behind me. With her black eyes. And her gray and blue skin. And her creepy smile.

I tried to scream, but I couldn’t. I was paralyzed. She walked up to me, and I could smell death. She was death. And when she kissed me, I felt the same feeling that I felt at the bathroom. It was like she was blowing air inside me.

I coughed, and I was back in the couch. Fast asleep.

And when I woke up, it was 3 AM.

And the house was empty.
