It’s a common theme here for a lot of people to have both parents or one of their parents to constantly tell them to have kids and punish them for being in a relationship where family plans aren’t a priority.

This really lost me because I personally want my kids to be well rounded, mentally, emotionally, and financially stable. I want my kids to reach their dreams and become whatever they want to be and live a fulfilling life. Seeing my kids happy and content with their life is all what would matter. I would love to have grandkids and become a grandparent, but I would never want my kids to have kids if they don’t want to or if they’re not able to financially afford it.

Over the years I’ve realized that most parents don’t want this for their kids. It’s not about seeing them happy or fulfilled, it’s about security in their older age and having someone to lean on. It’s about them not being lonely and having their kids bear the emotional labor in supporting them.

When I see parents forcing kids to get married or have kids young, it’s not out of love. It’s out of fear of being alone when they grow older. They know that their kids would be financially drained with student loan debt and won’t be able to support them. They know that the chances of their kids marrying someone from a wealthy family who can support their parents is slim. They know that their kids will already have a job, finances, and other responsibilities. They want their kids to have a partner to help take on the emotional labor of caring for them.

It’s not about love, it’s about creating a safety net for themselves. They don’t care if their kids become millionaires and live a happy life, as long as they have someone to share the burden of caring for them they don’t care.

This whole idea of parents wanting their kids to live a happy life and grow up to be whatever they want is a lie. A lot of parents don’t care about this as long as they don’t have to be alone in their old age.
