I am a woman in my 30s and I have always been drawn to teaching. When I was a child I would pretend to be an elementary school teacher, instructing my dolls. I have always excelled in school and was the go-to tutor for my college roommates.

Growing up, I studied psychology and social work, kind of with the intention of being a teacher but it never felt like I was "doing what I really wanted to do". I have often fantasized about going back to school for a teaching license so that I could teach middle school English or Special Ed.

But here's the thing; I have a baby boy and I am moving to a different state. I literally cannot afford to quit my job and go back to school to do this. Between building a new life in a new place, caring for a newborn and trying to find a new job in my field, I feel discouraged like I would never be able to do this.

I am wondering if anyone here has ever done this? Any tips?

ETA I have a bachelors degree in Social Work and am currently working as a case manager. I'm not sure I have the funds to go to school full time but I can probably afford to take one or two courses at a time. It looks like the state I am moving to requires 6 additional courses (which I would be able to take at a state university) to get certified as a teacher in Special Ed or English.
