I want to talk to you guys about loneliness. I’m sure we all have been lonely at one point or another in our life. It’s just a feeling that’s embedded in our system. And I think that this sub is a perfect place for everyone who feels lonely to talk about their feelings and emotions. But today, I’d like to think about it in a more profound way.

As a psychology student, I did some research on loneliness. I know that we can easily find many sources with pretty basic advice on how to deal with loneliness, but unfortunately, it’s not as easy as just ‘going out and making new friends’. It’s not a problem that you can solve with a magic solution like a pill that makes you feel better instantly. It’s human nature, so we can’t simply change it overnight.

I’ve asked myself a few questions: who’s the loneliest person in the world? How would we find them? How would we help them?
I’m sure we can’t identify one person who’s the loneliest in the world, but I’m sure we could find a few people who feel extremely lonely.

Now let’s imagine we know who the loneliest person in the world is. How would we find them? We probably wouldn’t be able to because they would live in a place that’s hard to reach for the majority of people, or they would live in a place with no internet access.
I think we’d have to ask people from various parts of the world to reach out to their communities to find out who’s the loneliest person in their area.

Now the most difficult question: how would we help them? I think it’s not enough to just give them company and make them feel loved for a short moment. That’s only a temporary solution. To fix their loneliness problem, we need to think about the reasons why they’re feeling this way in the first place. What happened in their life? What happened to them? What are their circumstances that lead to their loneliness?

If we don’t find out the reasons behind someone’s loneliness and we only help them temporarily, it means we didn’t help them at all.

What do you think guys? Do you agree? Or do you think it’s good enough to just provide a temporary solution? What would you do if you had the unlimited power to help the loneliest person in the world? How would you do it?

Feel free to share your thoughts on this! Or share anything you want !
