Myanmar (Burma) is an amazing place to travel, but please do not go.

It is a beautiful country with amazing landscapes, history, and a wonderful people. I really enjoyed my stay. <br><br>But they are under a murderous military junta. The military has been accused of genocide and is brutally suppressing any dissent, and is killing civilians. The military control the tourism industry, so I am pretty sure that any money you bring in will go to the regime.<br><br>I had an amazing time, and it was very cheap, but I did feel conflicting loyalties. I wanted to help the local economy, particularly the small independent businesses, but I didn't want to help the regime. It was a strange feeling. <br><br>If democracy is ever restored, I would be very happy to return, it was an amazing experience. But I think you should not go now.
