I am not one of those who say that anime goes for flash over substance, but i am starting to see a worrying trend in recent years.

I watched anime for like 6 or 7 years now and i never had a problem with finding at the very least 5 shows i like in every season. With the recent Spring and Summer season i had problems with finding at least 2 shows i like.

Now i know that giving out "worse" as a reason is not really a good one, so i wanted to list a few things i have noticed and ask for your opinion.

- Lack of Original Anime

- Lack of Mangas/Novel adaptions

- Many Anime with long running Manga/Novel adaptions tend to stay with an open ending giving no closure for anyone

- Anime getting shorter compared to older Anime

- A lot of Anime could be put in one of the three categories:
1. Illuminated Tees in Fantasy Setting
2. High School Drama
3. A Boy with a special gift does Monster killing

- Lack of Anime focusing on Social Commentary and psychological issues

- Anime in most recent years that are really really good tend to have some sort of flaws in them like rushed pacing, underdeveloped characters, some plot holes, no clear direction like they went for too much for the short amount of time they had

- I see a lot of Anime adaptions being rushed or closing in one season, giving them no real beginnings, middles or ends.

- Anime with shorter Season run times are getting more and more prevalent, which i think is problematic because a lot of Anime are starting to open up many plot lines without having some sort of resolution on any of them, which leads to a lot of unresolved plots in the end.

- I also want to mention Covid, not to panic anyone and i am not a doctor, but i do think that the Corona Virus did have an impact on the quality of the Anime we are getting lately. A lot of production studios lagged behind somewhat, changed their focus and/or downsized a bit which at the end led to many Anime being delayed, rushed and/or not as polished as they should be.

And lastly i want to mention that i don't necessarily see a problem that 2D Anime isn't as popular as it used to be in Japan.
