In the beginning, YouTube did not allow nudity at all. The only way you would see nudity was if it were for educational purposes, and that was a rare occasion.

The only thing that changed over the years was the interviews with celebrities and public figures. It started with these “looser” interviewers like Joe Rogan, then it turned to your run of the mill interviews like those on The Daily Show, and then you had your straight up controlled interviews with CNN and NPR and all that.

I remember back in 2006 whenever I went onto YouTube, I saw more interviews with everyday people than I saw anything else. It was a platform for the people.

There was no such thing as the “YouTube algorithm.” You could go onto any video and the first comment you’d see would be the one with the most upvotes. It was a platform for the people.

YouTube was never a platform for the people. It was always controlled by the elite, the only difference now is we do not get to see everyday people in interviews as much.
