Just turned 40, in a dead end job, and I have asked my company (a big tech company) about leveling down to save my sanity and I have been told that this is not an option

I am 40 years old. I work in engineering at a Tech company. I am now on the engineering manager path. I know I will be asked to move into a director or Senior director role in 5 years. I am not sure if I want that. It is a lot of work to be a manager and director. I am tired of the corporate grind. I want to be in a place where I can enjoy my job and enjoy my life.

This will probably be my last job in tech. I started to consider what and why I am doing what I am doing. I have asked around what happens to people who do not get promoted and the answer that I got was that they usually leave the company. I have spoken to my manager and he told me that I have too many responsibilities to think about leveling down right now. I have loved this company and the work that I do but I feel burnt out and I want to love my job again. I am not sure what to do about this(""). I am pretty senior and I can not level down. I love my job but I hate the corporate grind and the long working hours and the politics. I want to love my job again. I also think about retiring early but I am pretty sure that I will be bored to death. I don't know what to do.
