CMV: The minimum wage should be abolished

I have always been against raising the minimum wage, but the more I think about it I think it should actually be abolished. With no minimum wage, businesses could pay their employees more based on the performance of the employee. Instead of the government being the one that decides how much workers can be paid, it should be up to the employer and employee. I think this would help prevent the government from controlling people’s income.

In a televised speech on August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared, "to all our neighbors of the Americas, No longer shall it be necessary for men, women and children to come to America in search of work. No longer shall cities be overcrowded. No longer shall the inner cities be desolate. No longer shall the laborer be denied his fair wage. No longer shall labor be denied his right to collective bargaining. No longer shall fear and hate dominate the minds of free men. No longer shall those who make our clothing and textiles be exploited. No longer shall our workers have to be worried about the problems of an old age. No longer shall all Americans be threatened by the fear of poverty and unemployment. No longer shall the children of America go without access to healthcare; no longer shall the elderly go without reasonable access to care. No longer shall the mentally ill be left off to wander the streets. No longer shall the mentally ill be allowed to sleep in the streets. We would begin to remove the scabs of our nation. No longer shall the Americas be a place of fear, crime, and poverty. No longer shall all Americans be threatened by fear, crime and poverty."
