How do I have a story without the typical writing formula?

I’ve been trying to write a story but I feel like it should include a setting (exposition), inciting incident, rising action, plot twist, climax, conflict, falling action, and conclusion. But I don’t want it to be structured like this, I just want to write the story. I can’t think of the events I want to happen in the story in order like that. Is this normal?
