What does the future of shoplifting look like?

A lot of us have experienced the transformation of what shoplifting was like in the past. I think a lot of us experience so much disappointment and frustration.<br><br>Imagine the shoplifting of the 90s or 80s, I have heard stories of places not even having security cameras and barely being concerned with shoplifting. I could use some perspective from older folks but it seemed shoplifting became more serious to the justice system in the late 90s/ early 2000s but still no ai cameras or the heightened awareness we have today in regular stores. <br><br>I think back to when I started shoplifting, the store I stole from the most didn’t have cameras in the parking lot, now it’s like every big box retail store has ai security. Stores used to be so laid back about it and I know now I’ve had experiences where the cops don’t come right away and they only arrest you if they catch you in the act. I’ve been fooled into giving my information thinking I was going to jail and they just never did anything with it. But I’ve also had experiences where I’m caught hours or days later and they apprehend you. I never got arrested during these situations and they didn’t call the cops and they just banned and let me go with no report.<br><br>I can’t help but I feel things have changed so much. With people being more aware of it and ai, I truly wonder what it will be like to shoplift in the future? I’m worried that they’re going to have facial recognition, like obviously that’s the next step. It’s exhausting how you can’t even go anywhere without a camera on you now. I can’t help but wonder who’s even going to be able to shoplift in the future?<br><br>I’m 26, I have been shoplifting since I was 12. I have been so fortunate and I know people who have gotten in trouble for it but I truly just know so many people who shoplift and it seems so common. I know so many people who have gone to jail for it over the years and I’ve had so many close calls. I’m so nervous, I know I’m not the only one with anxiety over all these changes in security. I feel so stumped it seems over.
