I just had the most entitled parent email of my life..

I teach high school history and advanced history (AP). This AP is clearly defined in my syllabus, and the school's syllabus, as requiring work OUTSIDE of the classroom. Parents are asked for input on how much work they think their child can handle, we put them into one of three levels.

I have a student who is doing fine in AP. Her grade is currently an 88%. The mother emailed me saying that her daughter is spending 5 hours a night on homework.

She said that my class is too hard, that I assign way too much homework. She says that this is not normal for AP. But she also admitted that she hasn't taken a college level class in 20 years (I'm not sure how that matters).

She asked if she can move her daughter from my AP class to my regular class, with no penalty to her grade.

I told her, no. Her daughter is doing fine, she's not failing. She's also in band and choir, so that might be part of her daughter's 5 hours a night (I'm sure I could make that argument if I wanted).

She asked if I could just reduce the amount of homework I give the class and I said no as well.

I told her to stop micro-managing her child and let her take control of her classes. I told her to stop trying to make her daughter's decisions for her.

She then emailed me and told me she wasn't happy with my responses, I told her to talk to the principal.

Is this a problem or not? I've never had a parent get mad at me for NOT giving homework. Am I just being petty? On one hand I'm over this lady, on the other hand, I want to prove my point.
