I have a hard time imagining a modern city on land that wasn't previously inhabited by humans

I've been trying to imagine what a modern city would look like on land that wasn't previously inhabited by humans. This was inspired by imagining what the coastal cities would be like after sea levels eventually rise, but I think I'm also getting hung up on imagining what a coastal city would even be like if it isn't by the ocean now.

I've been imagining that a lot of cities would end up being a lot more similar to cities from other parts of the Earth, and that the overall aesthetic of the city would be influenced by the contemporary architecture. For example, if by 2050 the coast in the northeastern part of the US gets flooded, and everyone moves inland, I imagine that like 50 years later the architecture would be so modern that you wouldn't be able to tell it was from the US Northeast, but rather from 2100. I think what I'm trying to imagine is what a modern city would be like on land that wasn't previously inhabited by humans, so like why cities look the way they do in the places they are, and how a modern city would look like in that place. Does that make sense?

I'm sorry if this is too confusing, thank you for any help or advice for this.
