I work as a waitress at a diner. It’s a pretty normal diner, and I’ve been working here for a few years. I have to say, it’s an absolutely fantastic job. The pay is great, the boss is kind of a dick, but my coworkers are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.

The only odd thing about my job, is my only customer, Mr. Green.

Every day when I arrive at work, Mr. Green is always sitting at his usual booth. He never orders anything except a single hard-boiled egg, and never tips me more than five bucks.

I don’t even know what he’s doing here, because every time I see him, he just sits there.

Sometimes, he’ll take a bite of his egg, but all I ever see him do is sit there.

At first, it was terrifying, walking in on a lone man just sitting there, but over time, the sight of him just became normal. I even started looking forward to seeing him there, which always made me laugh.

I’ve tried striking up conversations, but Mr. Green doesn’t respond. Not once. I don’t even think he realizes I’m talking to him.

I know it sounds like a dream, or a fairy tale, because it feels like one.

One day, one of my coworkers approached me at lunch. She was a petite woman with curly red hair, and a bright red smile.

“Sure is nice weather, huh?” She said.

“It is.” I replied. I was confused.

“I’ve been working here for over ten years. I’ve never seen the weather stay so nice for so long! You know, my husband and I went to the beach just last weekend! It was so much fun. I even got a tan!”

I laughed at her excitement, “I’m glad to hear!”

“I sure do love this time of year. The weather is so nice! Just last weekend, my husband and I went to the beach. It was so much fun. I even got a tan!” She repeated.

I felt bad for her, but it was kind of sweet.

“Did you know that the weather stays this way forever?” I asked.

“Oh, yes! Every year, it gets this nice, and stays that way!” She smiled.

“This weather has been going on for a few years now, hasn’t it?” I asked.

“Oh, yes! Every year, it gets this nice, and stays that way!” She repeated.

I was confused, but I decided to drop it.

The next day, I asked my boss how long he’d been managing the diner.

“Over twenty years now.” He replied. He always seemed cold, emotionless.

“Wow, that’s impressive! Did you know that the weather’s been so nice for the past few years?” I asked.

“Yes, it is.” He replied.

The next day, I decided to talk to Mr. Green.

“Having a nice day today, Mr. Green?” I asked. He didn’t respond, as expected, but at least he was eating his egg.

I continued to work at the diner, and eventually, I turned twenty-one. Then twenty-two.

I met a guy I was sure I’d marry. We spent everyday together, went on countless dates.

I was so happy, and the nice weather helped a lot.

My boyfriend and I went to the beach together, and we had a great time. He proposed in the sand, and told me he loved me.

We had a beautiful wedding, surrounded by friends and family. We bought a house, and I took maternity leave when our child was born.

I bought a new car, and my husband got promoted.

We bought a bigger house, but our child turned out to be severely disabled. We spent most of our money on medical bills, and eventually, we couldn’t afford our house.

We bought a new car, and my husband got promoted, but then he cheated on me.

I bought a new car, and my husband got promoted, but then he cheated on me.

Then he cheated on me again, and I left him.

I managed to scrape together enough money to buy a small house, but our child turned out to be severely disabled.

I was sick for a while, and when I woke up, our child was grown up.

He married, had kids, and I became a grandmother.

My child passed away, and I was sick for a while.

When I woke up, my grandchildren were grown up.

I had over a dozen great-grandchildren, and I managed to live long enough to see them grow up, have children of their own, then pass away.

I was sick for a while, and when I woke up, I was at the diner.

I work as a waitress at a diner, and there’s only one customer.

The only odd thing about my job, is my only customer, Mr. Green.
