Opinion: AI will absolutely change everything. But if you really think about it, that just means that it will change everything so that nothing changes. We will get used to it and it will become as mundane as the refrigerator or automobile.

I think a lot of people think about AI like it's a magic pill that somehow transforms society overnight. I think the truth is that, yes, it will change everything, but people get bored with new things fast. Maybe even faster today than ever before, since everything (especially on the internet) moves so fast. But people have a tendency to get bored with new things and stop paying attention.

Take Tesla full self-driving as an example. Or maybe take Facebook as another example. The first time you get in an FSD and see it drive itself, it is WILD. But after 5-10 times, it's not exciting at all. You don't even pay attention. You scroll on your phone. I'm sure that would happen casually driving yourself too, but no one is excited to see them drive themselves at 18, 25, or 30 years old either.

Facebook came out years ago as a social media app just for college. It was exciting. It was new. It was the new fad. Today, it's boring to most people, and only used out of necessity. Even Instagram has fallen into this category for most people. Just a normal part of life.

I'm not saying that doesn't change us. Of course it does. People don't go to the mall anymore. People don't go to bars or restaurants as much since Uber Eats and COVID. People don't talk on the phone. People don't go to the movies. But nobody cares. They adapt, and then life goes on. They find new ways to live their lives, and then get bored with those.

Now, imagine AI that helps you with anything in your home and your car and your work. It's going to be exciting for a few years, and then it will become mundane. Its impact will be so vastly enormous that the average person won't even think about it. People won't even think about cars without self-driving anymore than they think about cars with or without air conditioning.

And as far as AI changing the workforce, this is what people don't understand. Yes, AI will replace people's jobs. The same way that the railroad replaced the steamboat, the same way the automobile replaced the railroad, the same way the refrigerator replaced ice delivery. But that has never created unemployment. Unemployment has always been around 5% in modern America. And it will continue to be that way with AI. People just change what they do. There are no ice delivery men now, so what? People delivery pizzas, mow lawns, paint houses, install solar panels, change oil in cars, and do a million other jobs that didn't exist 100 years ago.

And this is why I don't think AI will cause a revolution or riot. People will adapt. People will get bored with AI and continue on with their lives. If anything will cause someone to take up arms, it will be the government getting involved and ruining it.
