Why did you start learning your first foreign language?

First off, sorry if this topic has already been posted. I started with German in 2012. As a kid, I would watch the movie Shrek all the time. Don't know why I remember this so well, but at one point in the movie, there is an Easter egg. I can't really do this justice with words, so the scene goes something like this:

Shrek and Donkey are walking through a forest when they encounter a talking magic mirror. The magic mirror then says (or was it sings?) something like this: "Welcome to your swamp, Shrek."

Anyway, at the time I was so curious that I Googled what was being said (it was in German) and, after some research, I discovered that the line was "Willkommen in Ihrem Sumpf, Shrek."

I was super interested in German and started to listen to some traditional German music and started taking a German class at my high school. This ultimately led to me joining the German Army from 2017 to 2020. So, in essence, a movie on Netflix led to me joining the German Army. So, what led you to start learning a foreign language?
