I had a parent teacher conference for a student of mine. My assistant principal was there too. The kid is failing my class because he refuses to work but he gets oodles of handouts because he has an IEP - being diagnosed with ADHD plus dyslexia. The kid is the only kid I've had that I have sat and read to him word by word of what I write on the board plus I have written word by word what he says for him for his notes.

The kid doesn't try at all and barely pays attention. He spends the majority of my class sleeping. He is very lazy.

Anyways, at this meeting, the parents were understanding and apologised. I told them that their son has to try and plus I haven't had a kid like this where he doesn't even put forth an effort. They said to me that they would talk to him and make sure he does the work.

The kids father said to the asst principal that he is going to make sure homework gets done everyday and that he would make sure to get him to school on time. The asst principal said that he doesn't need to worry about that since we don't care about timeliness we care that he finishes his work. He said that getting him to school on time would ensure that he does his work.

During this meeting the kid said but Daaaad, the bus comes at 6 and I sleep in till 630.

His father got mad at him and grounded him. Tomorrow we shall see if he will get to school on time and get his work done.

Not how I wanted the kid to be punished but sometimes you reap what you sow seems to fit.
