You are just laying it off to minimalism. But your problem is something else.

Hello everyone,

I am a minimalist for a few years now and I am really happy with it. I also follow some youtube channels about minimalism and I noticed some consumers tend to attribute their problems about consumption to a wrong "problem".

For instance; when a minimalist youtuber is complaining that they purchased a sweater two years ago and haven't worn it for more than 4 times, they tend to attribute this problem to minimalism. They think that the problem is that they purchased one sweater but didn't wear it enough. In that case, the real problem is the sweater. If they purchased 10 sweaters, the problem still exists. 10 sweaters are just 10 times the problem.

So, the real problem is not "I purchased a sweater and didn't wear it enough" but rather "I purchased a sweater". This is the problem. So, the solution to this problem is not "purchase more sweaters" but "don't purchase sweaters at all". They think purchasing 10 times more will solve their problem but it really makes it 10 times worse.

The same problem exists for all kinds of consumer goods and the problem is not the purchase of a single good but rather the purchase itself. People tend to attribute their problems to a purchase of a single item but the real problem is purchasing itself.

I hope this makes sense and you can apply this kind of thought to your everyday life. I am also not saying that one should never purchase anything. However, people should remain skeptical when they purchase stuff.

Thanks for reading and stay safe.
