Neck-stretching and ear-popping sound?

I'm going crazy and desperate for any info/advice. We rent a second story apartment with only one bedroom and some open space on the first floor. We two adults and one 8-year-old.

**This is our very first year dealing with these fucking monsters.** We had one or two in the hallway last October, but they were suddenly gone and we thought nothing of it. Our neighbors' lights were left on all night and we joked that it was to scare them out.

Well, this year is the first time they've made it upstairs and into our main living areas. We've killed hundreds, 1,000, who knows. It started mid-September with the occasional flying bug in our bedroom. Now, they're in the bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, and main areas of the first floor.

**Problem is:** With the first cold snap, there's been this INSANE and constant neck-stretching sound. It's like someone pulling their Adam's apple down a little at a time. Or sometimes it's a solitary ear-popping sound. It's always in the room next to us, so it doesn't sound like it's in the walls. Also, it's not an insect chirp, whine, or buzz. Anyone have a similar experience? How did you deal with it? We're losing our fucking minds.

We've thrown down glue traps everywhere, checked all the window screens, closed the chimney, etc. Even the few cold snaps haven't slowed them down. They've even been flying around in the mornings even after it's gone below freezing outside.
