East Prussia: What was this region like in the mid to late 1930's

I have been reading quite a bit about the region of East Prussia (now the Kaliningrad Oblast) in the 1930's. What was this region like culturally, politically, and socially? I'm aware that the Nazis rose to power in the early 30's, but I'd love to know more about the pre-war era and what it was like living in East Prussia. From what I've read so far, it was a relatively conservative region.<br><br>Any thoughts/insights are appreciated.
