Spain puts menopause on sick leave: women will be able to stop working without losing pay

The Government has approved a royal decree law to include menopause in the list of processes considered a temporary disability, so women will receive full salary while unable to work.<br><br>By law, menopause has to be considered a cause of sick leave, but it must be a disabling one: it will be the doctors who are in charge of issuing a certificate. And the government will increase aid for families.<br><br>The Royal Decree-Law to improve the protection of women with menopause has been approved by the Council of Ministers. It is a package of measures that includes a major reform of the »sick note« system for women who suffer from a disabling menopause. The main novelty is that they will be able to stop working with a full salary, measures that will be effective from January.<br><br>This is the second package of measures adopted by the government in a month with the intention of reducing the birth rate. Specifically, these are aid for families with a child under three years old and the possibility of taking a day off to care for children from six years old. The government has another five laws in the pipeline to promote the birth rate: regulating surrogacy, help with reproductive therapies, more leave, help with mental health and more housing aid.
