For decades, many of the areas where these disasters have taken place have all been full of military bases and military contractors. They tell us that these bases are needed for our safety and security, but is that really the case? In the US, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has played a major role in the aftermath of natural disasters. Many people trust in the government’s ability to help them in times of crisis, often to the point of relying completely on that help. However, what if FEMA wasn’t actually here to help us? What if it, too, was part of the military industrial complex?

There are a lot of reasons to think that this is the case. Take the example of Hurricane Katrina in the early 2000s. At the time, many people were saying that FEMA was inefficient in its response to the disaster. This was blamed on corruption within the government, and that is probably part of the cause. However, FEMA was being run by military contractors at the time. In other words, instead of helping the victims of Katrina, the money was largely going to the military. This has been the case in many other natural disasters as well.

So, why is this happening? The simplest explanation is money. When these disasters occur, Congress appropriates billions of dollars that are supposed to go towards helping the victims. In reality, much of this is siphoned into the pockets of those with the most power. There is ample evidence that this has happened time and time again.

Another major piece of evidence is the connection between natural disasters and the creation of military bases. In many parts of the world, the consequences of natural disasters have been used as a pretext to create new bases and increase military presence. This has often been done under the auspices of helping the affected population. However, this is simply a form of disaster capitalism. In other words, powerful people and organizations are taking advantage of disasters in order to further their own interests.

In short, the military industrial complex is deeply intertwined with FEMA. This connection is part of a larger pattern that we can see around the world. So, the next time you hear about a disaster, remember that those in power are not there to help you. Instead, they are probably using it as an opportunity to line their pockets and exert their influence.
