I don't know if I'm just being a pussy or not...

Ok so I got a dog back in November, he's a 6 month old German Shepherd, he's a good boy and he's gotten almost all the basics of training down. Well, my dad is a legend and is out on a ship somewhere... he's expected to be back on the 26th of December. He's only home for 16 days until he has to leave again, this time for 2-3 months. <br><br>Well, he wants me to go spend that 16 days with him to learn some of the basics of what's going on when he leaves. The problem is that I'd rather spend my Christmas and New Years with my family and friends and I made a promise to my GF of 5 years that I would spend the holidays with her. <br><br>My dad thinks I'm just being a pussy and he says that my GF has other friends and my friends have other friends and that the family *will* understand. I think he's a selfish asshole, but what do you guys think?
