CMV: You should not have children

Hello CMV. I don’t expect to change many views, this is under the domain of my r/kingcobrajfs. I have recently been thinking about the nature of existence, and I have come to the stark realization that **you should not have children**. I do not have children, and I love the fact that I do not have children. The world is a cold unforgiving place devoid of joy. I can keep myself warm. I cannot keep anybody else warm. I cannot bring joy into the world. If you have children, they will inevitably grow up. They will grow old, and they will die. The only thing in between, is a sea of suffering and hardship. You can try to protect your children from the pain of the world, but you cannot keep them safe forever. You will not be safe forever. You will inevitably die and no longer be able to protect your children. If you hold onto this risk-reward of bringing life into the world for the hopes that they may be truly happy something in this life, you are after a higher reward than the chances of your children being happy in exchange for the inevitable guaranteed suffering of your children.<br><br> I have a hard time holding onto a relationship with even myself. How can you possibly think you can create a new person and keep their life happy and hold onto a relationship with them? I have parents and a father, and even they couldn’t keep the house warm. I have been a father to no one, and if I’m lucky, I will die that way. I know that this is the only life I get. I do not have the luxury of creating another life. I am stuck in this one, and I will see it through to the end. Your children will not be there to hold your hand at the end of your life. You will die alone, and your children will die alone. If you’re lucky, your children will be better parents than you were. But if you’re lucky enough to have children like that, then you won’t need them anyways.<br><br>**EDIT**: I am blown away by the sheer amount of a response this has received.
