My brother is 25, I will call him Jack. My brother is not religious at all, but his girlfriend is very religious. My family is Catholic but we aren't that religious and don't really go to church much.

The thing is that my brother has found a girl that he is serious about. They have been together for 9 months and after a few weeks my brother told me that she was very religious and that he really likes her but is concerned that she won't be okay with him being an atheist and so he told her about his lack of religion. She was fine with it.

Now she has met his friends and they also know that she is religious. They also know that my brother is an atheist. Also, my birthday was on Saturday and she was invited and so I asked my brother if she is okay with celebrating after sunset because it is Ramadan now. My brother said it isn't an issue.

So my birthday was on Saturday and she was there. Everything was going well until she opened her phone and noticed the time and said that it is Maghrib and she needs to pray so she went to my room. My cousin who is 19 was there and he is religious and when she went he was like "good for her, religion matters in these times" and my aunt said "see, religion is important".

I said "yeah, we all know that she is religious but that won't last. My brother is an atheist and not religious at all so she is gonna be dumped"

She heard what I said and started crying. My brother said I was an asshole for saying that and she went home.

Now my family is split. Some think I was shitty but some think she was being too much and should not have expected us to be quiet about our thoughts about her religion.
