Hello everybody. I'm Chilean and I'm not sure where to share this. This sub has a lot of good vibes so I'm gonna share it here.

Today the police attacked a peaceful protest in Valparaíso. The protest was about the rise of bus fares. They were hiding in the metro stations and there was no way to escape.

I'm really, really worried. This looks like the beginning of a dictatorship and we're not ready for this. We need to be very brave and defend democracy.

I don't think you're gonna be interested in this, but I need to let it out. It's very sad and it makes me feel very powerful-less.

If you're wondering, US Imperialism is at fault. If you want to know more let me know.

Edit: I just woke up and I'm shocked by the amount of kindness in the comments. Thank you so, so much. I'm going to read all of them and cry a little.

Chile is fucked up. The government is trying to set curfews in some places but we don't give a fuck. We're gonna protest until they die.

God FUCK the United States. Fuck their Imperialism and fuck their greed. I'm not saying that the American people are guilty, but your government IS. And the CIA is an asshole.

I know some of you were asking for information on Twitter. I don't speak English fluently enough to do so, but I'm gonna try my best to explain the situation.

There's a huge lack of information in my country. You probably know that we're in South America. We were a socialist country in the 70s but the CIA killed our president and Democracy with the help of Pinochet. They set up a dictatorship that lasted for 17 years and was absolutely brutal. It was very hard but we recovered our democracy in the 90s.

There's been 5 years of right-wing governments, and the current one is the most extreme. The current president, Piñera, is a millionaire, and he's doing everything he could to take as much money as he can from the poor and put it in his own pocket.

This protest started about three weeks ago. The government raised the bus fares and students couldn't pay it. They just wanted to protest that. Then, we all knew that it was enough. We won't pay for all the greediness of the rich.

There has been protests, but the government doesn't care. They are in a military state now. They're attacking everybody in the streets, killing, injuring, and abusing women.

I'm a woman and I'm 18 and I'm afraid. I'm shit scared. I'm dead scared. I don't know what will happen if they catch me. The government is doing anything they can to make us fear them. They're in the streets with weapons. They're dressed like soldiers and they're attacking anything they see.

And they're not telling us anything. There's a huge lack of information. They're hiding the numbers of dead people and injured people. We don't know anything and we are all very confused.

I'm trying to be brave but they're not just defending a government, they're defending a system in which they're privileged. They're privileged because we are poor.

I say 'libertad' and you say 'o muerte'.

Libertad...
