It’s becoming obvious that chatgpt, and products like it, are going to have a major impact on society. I think we are witnessing the birth of a new technological revolution. One of the long term effects of gpt powered AI is that it will make humanity capable of producing technology at a rate that is much faster than it was before. <br><br>This is not really important at the moment, but if we see AI capable of doing or augmenting the following, we will see a new paradigm of technological progress. It is essentially turning the brain of humanity into a 24/7 factory for new technology. <br><br>Producing fundamental scientific research <br><br>Designing and making new materials at the molecular level<br><br>Designing and making new machines <br><br>Open source design and production of weapons <br><br>Because the brain power brought to the table is much more capable than humanity, a lot of it can be put to work on one problem. This is another thing that separates this from the normal development of technology. There will be an unleashing of massive amounts of brain power on different technological problems. It’s not only that it’s faster, but it’s faster AND it’s producing massive amounts of design output. <br><br>Imagine a team of 100,000 of the world’s best scientists and engineers, working 24/7, doing the same job a few hundred people in some lab do. And there are an infinite number of teams like that, all working at the same time. <br><br>I can’t imagine what that future looks like now, but it’s likely that once we get to that level, we will be out of the industrial era and in the sci-fi era. People who are younger will live to see humanity in “god mode”. This is a time when we will have technology that can manipulate nature at will. So we can do anything we want, anywhere on the planet, and have unlimited resources. <br><br>It’s not going to be a smooth experience for everyone. People who are the beneficiaries of the technology era will see a huge leap in their standard of living. People who are against the new technology will not. If we get advanced weapons tech, war becomes more deadlier. <br><br>It will be a crazy world, but also one of immense opportunity.
