Why are women willing to suffer injustice rather than fight back?

Something about this site frustrates me and I think I just realized it. It is the attitude of most women here who are saying “Now we turn to our loved ones. We don’t fight the law. We just live our lives.” It feels so so so pathetic.

This is a country that prides itself on resisting a government that is tyrannical. That is the American spirit. That is the spirit of feminism.

We aren’t fighting for the right to vote. We aren’t fighting to use birth control. We are fighting for the right to kill a parasitic clump of cells that is growing inside us. To be very clear, the right to terminate a pregnancy doesn’t just seem like it should be a right. It IS a right. We have the right to control our own bodies. We have the right to life.

I’m so tired of pussyfooting around. I’m tired of working within the system. This system will not defend us. We will not have the lived experience of a woman running this country and making laws to protect us for a very long time. We will not have enough women in power to change the system from the inside. The very best of us (like Ruth Bader Ginsburg) lived and died and our reproductive rights are even more precarious than they ever have. We can’t say we don’t know what to do. We know what to do.

A certain very queer very alto woman said it best: “Well-behaved women seldom make history.”

I don’t care if you disagree, you sound pathetic when you say you won’t fight back. Fight.
